Our Town

Everyone wants to know what its like to live in a company owned town. I mean you hardly ever hear of those anymore. My grandpa grew up in an old mining town in Utah and its now a ghost town. For those of you who don't know what it means to live in a company town. Everything is owned by the mine. Here are some of the perks of living in Morenci:

• Our 3 bedroom house is only $200 a month for rent,
• Our movie theater gets new releases and is only $4,
• Free gym membership and a personal trainer if you so choose,
• Our truck and gas paid by the company, and
• Brad gets his Masters tuition paid for.

Its really not that bad of a place to live. We really love our ward and the people here are really friendly. You just have to get used to long drive to Tucson or Phoenix whenever we need to get out of town.

Mining towns are really rare so I thought everyone would like to see what our little town looks like.

Brad is Toothless No More!

After over a year of having no bottom front tooth Brad finally got his implant yesterday! Its been quite the ordeal. If any of you are wondering why Brad had a missing tooth this is the story:

When Brad was 15 he got hit in the face with a baseball and it knocked his bottom two teeth out. Now over 11 years later Brad could wiggle his tooth with his tongue (like a 7 year old about to loose his first tooth) he went to the dentist and they told us it was an emergency and his tooth could fall out any moment and we need to get this taken care of right away. Brad had to get an implant so we found an Oral Surgeon in Tucson and scheduled his surgery in March of 2007. After the surgery the surgeon told me that whoever did Brad's root canal when Brad's teeth first fell out penetrated the root to his bone which caused Brad's bone to disintegrate and when the surgeon opened Brad's jaw he said his bone looked like mush. He was not able to complete the implant because it would not hold in his mouth. So he injected something in his jaw to help him regrow his own bone. Brad waited 6 months for his mouth to heal and had another surgery to put the actual implant in and waited another 8 months for his mouth to heal around the implant to actually get his tooth.

Tucson is 2 and 1/2 hours away. Three times Brad would make a trip for an appointment having to take work off only to have to turn around and come back home because they were missing an instrument. The office was so frustrating to work with I hated it, but they are who our insurance company covered so we had to put up with them.

So its only been a day, but Brad said even though it feels weird to have a tooth again it really does help him eat a lot better. Sorry no pictures Brad thought no one would want to see pictures of his mouth.

Blog Stalker

So I've been told I'm a blog stalker.  What that means is that I go onto my friends blogs and see who there friends are etc... I have actually found a lot of long lost friends and even people I just knew because they were the cool kids at school.  I found an old friend from school by doing this and she told me I'm a blog stalker.  Guilty as charged, but its really fun to see what everyone is up too from the good old days.  So if anyone is stalking my blog please feel free to write a comment and let me know whats going on in your life.   

Boys and their Toys

Brad just loves his toys. 3 years ago for his birthday we bought him a GPS system perfect for our summer back east when Brad was still selling pest control. We have loved it. It has helped us out so many times. Then a couple weeks ago Brad took the GPS to Tennessee for his business trip and broke the car charger. So instead of buying a new charger for the car he buys a new GPS system. Ours was out dated anyway right? Its only 3 years old. Its amazing to me though how much cheaper and more high tech 3 years can make for technology. When we bought our first GPS system it was when they first came out so they were still really expensive and the "cheap" one we bought was still $400 bucks. The new one we got was $1,000 3 years ago and now its only $200. Thats how much technology changes. Plus it has a bunch more stuff on it then our old one.

Its just fun to see how Brad gets so excited over getting new toys. He spends days of research on it to make sure he buys just the right one. When our first one came in the mail I opened the box and he was so sad. He really wanted to open it so this time when it comes in the mail I'll wait till he comes home. Its like watching a little boy open a Christmas present. Its pretty cute.

2nd Honeymoon

So this past weekend Brad and I were lucky enough to receive a visit from our very good friends Jordan and Jenny Singleton. They were nice enough to drive the gruesome 13 hour drive to come visit us on there way to Mexico where they will be spending the summer before Jordan goes to med school in the fall. They arrived Thursday night and we had BBQ all ready for their arrival. We stayed up way to late talking and watching the Office. Friday morning we showed them around our small mining town and then we all headed off to Phoenix.

We took them to our favorite place to eat called Joe's real BBQ.

Brad is the luckiest person when it comes to getting great deals off of priceline. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Scottsdale (the ritzy part of Phoenix) its normally $400 a night we got it for only $55. It was definitely the nicest place we had every stayed at. Its the place where people with Ferrari's go. Their pools where amazing! They had gorgeous flowers that draped over the pool and the petals would float on the water. Very romantic! Jenny said it was like a 2nd honeymoon with friends! They also had a water slide that we went down a thousand times. Brad said he could do this all day. Jordan and Brad were really fun to watch because they were like little boys.

We really enjoyed having visitors and we already miss them and can't wait until July when they come back from Mexico to see us!
