Feeling Nostalgic

We recently drove past some cotton fields (I didn't even know we lived by cotton fields) which instantly took my thoughts to Morenci.  I loved driving past the cotton fields in the fall and seeing the popcorn looking fields stretch on and on. When we first moved to Morenci I never thought I would love that place as much as I do. Eight years later and still my thoughts constantly drift back to Morenci.  That small little Arizona town made quiet the impact on our lives.  Now we're in Texas and it feels crazy to me that its been a little over a year since we left Tucson.

Brad and I talked about how strange it is that all of our boys have been born different places, because we both grew up; Brad living in the same town he was born at, and me living in the same house since I was 5.  Its rare now a days for that to happen.

That being said, I love that my boys have been born in all the places that we've lived.  Safford/Morenci, Tucson, and now Katy,  In a way, its like a piece of that place is always with us (sorry for the cheesiness, but its how I feel).  I love thinking back to when they were born, the friends that helped us, the houses we brought them home too.  It makes me happy, and on rainy days like today it makes me feel all warm and cozy, like snuggling up in a blanket and drinking a warm cup of hot chocolate.

The boys share a room!  Alright so lets be honest, the boys had been sleeping in the same bed since we basically moved here, but we moved Tanners things into the room and got bunk beds!

Carson was so excited to have the top bunk!  We thought Tanner would love having a place to call his own, however he missed sleeping with Carson.  The first night Carson said Tanner was really sad and kept asking for him so then the next couple of nights Tanner would sneak up to the top to sleep with him.  Totally defeating the whole purpose of why we got the bunk beds, but after realizing that Carson was still in the room with him and loving his new Avenger bed sheets decided he was ok with sleeping in his own bed.

And while we are at it, I don't think I ever posted a picture of Logan's room.  My friend/neighbor Erin loves to paint and suggested we do this to the nursery.  I don't think I would have ever attempted this without her help, and I love how it turned out!  The quilt pictured is the quilt I've been using for Logan's monthly pictures, and is a quilt that I made.  I'm pretty proud with how beautiful it turned out. Now I just need to swap out Tanner's old baby pictures with Logan's to make the room complete!  

Tanner goes to school!

I can't believe how big this boy is getting!  He still feels like the baby of the family (even though we have a new baby)!  With Carson in school I've been having so much fun having some one on one time with him.  It felt so crazy to me that he was starting school!

Confession: With school back in session our pools have closed and our ward is switching back to its park play dates.  When I got the first email about the upcoming play date my first thought was "I'm going to miss going to those" then almost immediately after thought, "oh wait I still have Tanner to go play"!  I feel so bad that for so long it was always "The Carson Show featuring Tanner" as one friend put it.  Tanner's always been so good to tag along wherever we went for Carson.  Don't get me wrong Tanner loved it, because he got to play with the big kids, but I'm glad he gets a few years in the spotlight now.  Now it will be "The Tanner Show featuring Logan" :)

Tanner was so excited to start going to school!  He goes every Tuesday to a friends house (the super mommy who did the art camp that Carson went to) from 9:30-12.  Its specifically for 2 1/2 year olds who won't be starting kindergarten for another 3 years.  Its perfect for him and Ms. Heather is amazing. When I picked him up he had the biggest smile on his face, and he couldn't wait for Carson to come home to tell him that he went to school.

Tanner is also going to a craft group on Wednesdays.  This group is about 6 kids from church and each week we will take turns letting the kids play for two hours with a craft and snack.  Its just nice socialization for the kids as well as some needed mommy time.

Brazos Bend State Park

With Carson in school our "friday fun day" has been moved to Saturday.  So this weekend we wanted to go to Brazos Bend State park.  We recently heard that just 45 minutes south of where we live is a state park that is swamp land and filled with Alligators.  We thought the boys would love it so we decided to go.

 There are lots of walking trails and lakes.  The first place we stopped at had an overlook of swamp and it was gorgeous, and although we saw lots of birds we didn't see any gators.  A fellow observer told us of a spot where he saw an alligator and we decided to go there.  However, we had only been in the park for 15 minutes before the dark clouds rolled in and it started to rain.

 We were debating whether or not to just go home, but we traveled all that way we couldn't just get there and turn around.  So even in the rain we decided to see if we could find that gator and sure enough there it was...

As we were walking back to the car, Tanner kept saying the alligator was cute.  Cute is not the word I would use!  They creep me out especially seeing it in the wild and not at the zoo like I'm used too seeing them, but the boys thought it was the coolest thing and kept talking about it.    

The swamp is not the mountains we're used too. I would love to go back and spend some more time there to go on the walking trails and to have a picnic. We're definitely not in Utah/Arizona anymore!

My sweet little baby is growing up!  His cute little face is starting to plump up giving him the most kissable checks.  Plus his smiles are the most precious thing!

Logan loves his swing, the sound of crickets (on his swing), being held, kisses, being outside, being held in a position where he can see/explore, being sung too, and loves when we blow raspberries on his tummy.

Logan does not like being in car seat (unless its moving), his brothers smothering him (although I think he is starting to get used to it), being cold, gas, dirty diapers, and getting his diaper changed.

His eyes are getting lighter and lighter.  We're pretty sure they are going to be blue just like his dad and Tanner. 

Twins!

As I was taking pictures today of Logan for his 2 month post I couldn't get over how much he looks like Tanner!  So I looked through Tanners baby pictures at this age and I couldn't believe it!  They are totally twins.  Brad couldn't even tell the difference when I asked him to tell me who is who.  

 The only noticeable difference between these two boys is their noses.

Here's Carson just in case you wanted to compare all three.  Yep, he totally looks way more like Tanner!  You can definitely tell all three are siblings!  

The end of the first week of School

We made it through the first week of school!  Carson was so excited each and every day to go to school.  He would wake up bright and cheerful.  I on the other hand, towards the end of the week thought to myself, do I really have to do this every single day FOREVER!?  Its exhausting!

All my friends told me that the first few weeks are the hardest, because the kids are so exhausted/grumpy.  It takes a while for them to get used to the new routine.  Not mine.  In fact it seems just the opposite.  He has so much energy when he comes home from school that he is still going a mile a minute, and is also in a very snacky mood. He even had a hard time going to bed at night, because he kept wanting to play.  I don't know how he keeps going!  Although according to Grandma, thats just how his daddy was.  So I blame Brad.

The lack of sleep did catch up to Tanner though.  He was copying Carson's schedule, but refused to take a nap.  On Wednesday I could tell it had caught up to him and that he was tired, but when I tried to get him to take a nap he wouldn't.  Then while I was making dinner around 4:45 he was out cold on the couch.  We put him in his bed and he slept until 6 o'clock the next morning!  He was one tired little man.  Luckily since then, we've been able to get Tanner to take a nap, because boy does he sure still need them!

One day I had both Tanner and Logan down for a nap. It was so nice!  I was quite enjoying my alone time when I heard the bus and looked at the time and realized I totally forgot about picking up Carson.  Luckily the bus stop is just down the street so I ran outside, barefoot and all, to pick him up.  I'm still getting used to our new schedule.

Carson loves school and he was telling us all about the rules as well as the color chart for bad behavior.  There is "rudy red, yelling yellow, bossy blue, greedy green, and pouty purple" non of these are kids that you want in your class.  We've even incorporated this at home by telling him to stop being a rudy red to Tanner.  Its worked.

One night while saying his prayer he broke out in the pledge of allegiance.  He also said that we need to be nice to the flag of the United States and Texas or else Santa Clause won't come.  I was trying so hard not to laugh!  In another prayer he told Heavenly Father that  that Jesus would like going to school, because its fun and you learn everything there.

I bought Carson liquid kool-aide (you pour a couple drops in water to flavor it) and while doing this Carson said that he was a scientist doing an experiment.  I said to Carson "did you know your dad is a scientist?"  Carson eyes got really wide and said "my dad is a scientist?!  That is sooo cool!"  Proud daddy moment! After that Brad and Carson did some little experiments (food coloring/bleach and a volcano).  Carson now wants to be a scientist like his dad.
