Tays Basketball

One of my favorite parts of this school year was getting to watch Tanner play basketball for his school team.

Last year was tough. He was one of the last players cut, and while he handled the disappointment well, I know how badly he wanted to make the team. He spent the past year working hard, improving his skills, and hoping for another chance.

This year, all that hard work paid off.

Tanner made the C team! At his school, each grade has three teams because the student population is so large, so making a team is an accomplishment in itself. To make it even better, he got placed with his favorite coach, which made the season that much more enjoyable.

I have to admit, watching school basketball was so much fun—honestly, I enjoyed it way more than city league basketball. There was just something special about seeing him represent his school, play with his classmates, and be part of a team that worked so well together.

And what a season it turned out to be! Tanner's team kept winning, game after game, and eventually made it all the way to the district championship. The championship game was against our rival school, the one that always seems to win everything. That made the victory even sweeter.

More than the trophy, I'm proud of Tanner for sticking with it after last year's disappointment. It would have been easy to give up, but instead he worked harder, stayed determined, and earned his spot. Watching that perseverance turn into success has been one of the highlights of the year.

Way to go, Tanner! 🏀🏆❤️

Champions!

Love Coach Keim and his son Beau who was also on the team.  These two have been buddies since Kinder! They actually played the same position and I was constantly having to double check which one was playing because the look so much a like!

Astros Night!

Brad scored some amazing tickets through work to the Astros game, and it turned into such a fun night! We had incredible seats, and after the game we got to go down on the field to watch the fireworks show. Being on the field was surreal — and we happened to be standing right by the visiting team dugout when out walked Maldonado, the Astros’ former catcher. It was so cool to see him up close, even though it was a little bittersweet since he was traded.

We made it an overnight and stayed downtown, and Brad totally surprised me. He told the hotel we were celebrating my birthday, and they sent up a bottle of champagne and a cupcake — such a sweet touch to end a great night!

 

Track

This spring Tanner decided to give track a try at school! It’s a no-cut sport, which means anyone can join, but with such a big and competitive school, actually getting to compete in the meets is a whole different story. They only take the top 3 students for each event—and Tanner earned one of those spots!

He trained hard, got up early for practices, and ended up qualifying to run the 800 meters (two full laps around the track!) at the meets. We’re so proud of his dedication, perseverance, and the way he pushed himself to reach this goal. Love cheering this kid on! Way to go, Tanner!

Titans Football

So proud of Tanner for joining the junior high football team this year! 🏈 It’s a no-cut sport, which means anyone who wants to play gets a chance—and Tanner jumped right in, even though he’d never played before. Out of the three teams, he made the middle team (Navy Team), which was such a great accomplishment for his first season!

What impressed me most was his discipline and commitment. He woke up early every morning for practice—even giving up those last few weeks of summer sleeping in—to show up and put in the work. That kind of dedication says a lot.

Because of the arm he broke earlier this year, the doctor couldn’t clear him for contact play yet (it hadn’t been six months since the injury), so he was only allowed to participate in practices. We were hopeful he might be able to suit up for a few games later in the season, but it didn’t pan out. Still, he went to every practice and stood on the sidelines at every game, cheering on his teammates with heart.

We’re hoping next year brings a full season on the field. So proud of this kid’s perseverance and attitude!

Fall happenings

Fall update on the boys!

Logan went to Cub Scout camp for the day and loved it.

His favorite was the BB guns.

I think practicing at the cabin paid off! 

I spy a couple bullseyes 🎯 

I mean compared to the other boys in his den, he killed it.

We also started fall soccer! Or as Logan calls it, football. Logan hasn’t ever really been interested in soccer, he played when he was really young, but he doesn't remember. In fact the last time he tried to play he went to one practice before the world shut down for Covid, but recently he's been playing "football" at recess with his friends and so has been dying to play with a team.

 Logan got the MVP the very first game! His coach said that during practice Logan told the coach he wasn’t so sure about this soccer thing, but during the game he kept attacking the ball all with a huge smile on his face.

And his team won first place in his age division! Logan was so happy he got an actual trophy! (Here you only get trophies if you win, otherwise you get a participation medal)

And he also moved up in Taekwondo! Logan broke his first big board! And is now a people belt.

I promise I have other kids! Tanner went on a scout campout to Dino Valley. It’s a state park that has Dino footprint fossils in the riverbed. And since Texas is in a drought and the riverbed practically non existent, they got to see lots of footprints! It was pretty cool!

Next up, Fall Orchestra concerts! So handsome in his tux🤵🏼

And it was Tanners first one too! Since its the first years first one, they played a couple simple songs and then also taught 1 person how to play. Tanner taught his friend who came along to support.

So proud!

 Phew fall is a busy time of year, with the start of school and all the things! I wish I could say I hope it’ll slow down soon, but the holidays are right around the corner so we all know that ain’t gonna happen!
