Art Camp

Last week was spring break and a mom in our ward was doing an art camp for 3-7 year olds.  Since we didn't have any plans going anywhere we signed Carson up for every day!  It was more of a spring break for me since it went from 9-2:30!  So glad to live in a ward with people like this!

Each day they learned about famous artists and recreated their work!

March 10 - Colors with Kandinsky, Matisse & Picasso

March 11 - Water Colors and Flowers with Monet/Dancing, Oil Painting and Chalk Art with Degas

March 12 - Modern Art with Van Gogh/Self Portraits with Cezanne
(Carson's version of Starry Night)

(Van Gogh's Sunflower)

March 13 - Abstract Expressionism Action Painting with Pollock/Pointillism with Seurat

March 14 - Painting and Sculpting with Michelangelo & Da Vinci
 (they're recreating the Sistine chapel!)

(The apron he painted and got to take home)

Ms Heather sure did a fantastic job!  Carson looked forward to it all week!  He was so sad when it ended.  Hopefully she'll do it again next year!

5

Carson turned 5!  I can't believe it.  Five seems like such a milestone birthday to me.  I think mostly because 5 means he will start kindergarten this year and our lives will completely change.  Also, he's my first and he's growing up and not my little baby/toddler anymore.

Carson couldn't have been more excited he's been asking about his birthday since Christmas ended.  His actual birthday landed on a Sunday this year, so it was a nice quiet day spent at church and at home.  He loved having all the primary kids sing happy birthday to him.

Then that weekend we were able to celebrate with friends at his Angry Birds Star Wars Birthday Party!

To start we colored some coloring pages and put angry bird stickers on our goody bags.
Then played pin the light saber on the angry bird
Practiced our target skills with nerf guns to get the darth vader pig and his storm trooper pigs
As well as our sling shot skills.  We also had light saber fights (made from pool noodles), but unfortunately I didn't get a picture of that.
And of course everyones favorite; the pinata.  We had to punch the enemy (darth vader pig) with the hulk hands.

I guess I made the pinata a little tougher this year since after everyone had a turn, and it had not broken yet, all the boys pounced on it by punching and jumping on it to break.
Then it was time for cake and presents.

I think it was a hit!  Boys are pretty easy, give them guns and swords and you've pretty much won them over.  The most important part though was that Carson loved it.  Sure do love this boy of mine!  Happy birthday Carson!

Cowboy Carson

This week Carson's preschool celebrated Rodeo week.  Then on Thursday the kids got to dress up in cowboy/girl attire and do a little parade for all the parents around the courtyard.  After the parade the kids sang to us "Deep in the Heart of Texas" and a couple other songs.  It was really cute and Tanner loved dancing along with the kids. Then his class had a chili cook off for lunch in which they had hotdogs.  Love all the fun activities he has at school!

Rodeo Run

Brad's company hosted a run this weekend to kick off Redeo Week.  I didn't realize the full magnitude of this race.  There were 13,000 people running!  It was massive!

The boys loved cheering their daddy on

Crossing the finish line (Brad's in the black shirt)
So proud of our daddy!  He did great!

After the 10k we watched the Rodeo parade.  The Rodeo here is a huge deal.  It goes on for 3 weeks!

Lots of cowboys and covered wagons
 Carson loved the laseo

It was a fun way to start Carson's birthday weekend.
