April update

April was a busy month full of accomplishments!

Tanner had a great time at a Scout campout and earned his fishing merit badge.

He caught a huge fish! (Compared to everyone else)

Learning how to descale and fillet his fish.
Unfortunately when they opened his fish up it had parasites in it so he wasn’t able to cook it.
But he was able to use other scout’s fillets to cook so he could complete his merit badge.

Tanner also showcased his musical talent by performing his UIL cello solo.

Showing off his medal for earning a #1

Carson took a big step by starting to learn how to drive! Now that he’s officially 15 he can get his drivers permit and so we took him to the high school parking lot to get him behind the wheel. I’ll admit it’s a little nerve wrecking seeing your baby drive, but he did great.

Brad was able to get tickets through work to go see the Mercury chamber orchestra. It was dinner and a show and they performed Latin themed music. We took the boys and it was a fun family outing with beautiful music.

Logan stayed active with soccer and achieved a new milestone in Taekwondo, earning his brown belt stripe!

As the school year winds down, this time of year marks the beginning of a hectic season filled with end-of-year activities, celebrations, and final commitments. It’s a whirlwind of events, and we know May  going to be worse! Time to brace ourselves!

Houston Dynamo

It was family day for ConocoPhillips employees at the Houston Dynamo game. It was our first professional soccer game, and despite the cold and rainy weather, it was a blast. The stadium was alive with energy, especially from the intense fans who were beating drums and chanting nonstop. It definitely made the atmosphere even more exciting!

Fortunately our seats were under an awning so the rain didn’t dampen our spirits it just added to the experience. Unfortunately the very last few minutes Austin scored, winning the game 1-0.

With Logan getting into soccer it was fun to watch a live game. So much better watching live with the crowd energy than watching soccer on tv! It was a fun and memorable night, made even better by sharing it as a family. Love that Brads company offers so many family fun activities!

Solar Eclipse

The April 8, 2024, solar eclipse was a highly anticipated event, with Waco and Austin experiencing totality while Katy, TX, sat just outside its path. I had considered making the three-hour drive with the kids to witness the eclipse in its full glory, but with the weather forecast predicting heavy cloud coverage, I wasn’t sure if the trip would be worth it. As the eclipse approached, the sky remained overcast, but for a brief moment, the clouds parted just enough for us to catch a glimpse, a fleeting but magical sight.

Unfortunately, the local schools, which had planned watch parties, decided to cancel due to the forecast, Logan came home from school completely devastated. he was looking forward to it so much.  In hindsight, I wish I had taken the chance and driven to Waco with friends, as the clouds there weren’t as bad as predicted, and they were able to witness the total eclipse in all its breathtaking beauty. Big regret. Sometimes, once-in-a-lifetime experiences are worth the risk.
