Alaska

Brad went to Valdez, Alaska on a business trip, and while there he was able to mix business with pleasure.  Some of the highlights include; lots of hikes, a glacier tour where he saw lots of sea lions and even a glacier crash into the ocean causing a huge ripple effect that rocked his boat, and coming face to face with a bear on one of his hikes.  Alaska sure looks beautiful and I would love to go there sometime!

someone broke their arm

With 3 boys who love to wrestle I'm surprised we made it this long without making an ER visit.

Earlier this day I was at the doctors for Logan's 3 year well check.  His doctor is usually always on time, except on this day. We had a wait.  Of course.  I was due to pick up Carson and Tanner from their first day at Vacation Bible school, but there was no way I was going to make it in time. So I called a friend whose kids were also there to see if she could pick them up.

After Logan's doctor's appointment, I went to pick up the boys but decided to stay and chat while the kids play.  Carson and his friend were playing on a bed when I heard the most heart-wrenching scream.  I knew something was bad.  I ran to see what had happened and took one look at Carson's arm and knew it was broken.  His arm looked like a noodle.

Apparently, Carson fell off the bed, and when he did he got his arm caught between the mattress and the bed frame and it snapped.

As I was trying to gather my boys to leave so we could take Carson to the hospital, my friend said to just take Carson and to not worry she would watch the other 2 boys.  Of course! I don't know why I didn't think of that.  What a blessing I was at her house.  I probably would have packed up all the kids and taken them all to the hospital if this had happened at our house. I was so grateful she was there to watch the boys, because of course, Brad was out of town when this happened. It would have been awful taking Tanner and Logan to the ER especially since we ended up being there for 5 hours...

We tried the Urgent Care first and when we got there we were second in line, but when they called the other guys name he said "take the kid first he needs to see the doctor more than me!" what a nice guy.   We didn't wait long, the doctor came in took one look and said that we needed to go the ER.  That all she could do at the urgent care was put it in a sling. but then his arm would heal the way it looks, and we wouldn't want that.  So they gave him some Tylenol because the poor kid was in so much pain it looked like he was going to pass out!  And off we went to the ER.

Isn't this just the saddest thing you ever saw?

Once we got to the ER we got into a room fairly quickly, but then it was a wait.  Then a visit from the nurse. Wait. Then an X-Ray. Wait. Then the doctor. Wait.  Then they gave him an IV, and the equipment wasn't monitoring him so we had to switch rooms.  Wait, wait wait.  It took forever!  So much waiting.  Carson was a trooper though.

Broke both bones in his arm!  Luckily it was his left arm that broke and not his right because school was about to start in 2 weeks!

They had to put Carson under so they could manipulate the bones back into place.  The drug they gave him would make him out of it, but he may or may not fall asleep.  Luckily this drug would also make him not remember what they are doing so he wouldn't forever be traumatized by it. They made me leave the room while they did it too so I wouldn't be forever traumatized either (thank heavens)!

By this time it was 5 pm and since Carson broke his arm around lunch time, and that morning I was running out the door to get the boys off to camp and then to a doctors appointment, I hadn't eaten anything all day.  So while the doctor did the procedure I ran and made a quick trip to get some food.  I was STARVING!

When I got back the doctor told me Carson did an excellent job and that he didn't fall asleep, but rather stayed awake and they talked about Rockets NBA player James Harden while he manipulated his bones back into place.  Carson seemed oblivious and had no clue what was going on!
We were told to then call an orthopedic doctor the next day to get a real cast on vs. a temporary one (they needed to wait for the swelling to go down). When we did see the orthopedic doctor, he said that the ER did a perfect job in manipulating the bones back into place and that it should heal just nicely.
As we were about to leave Carson got up and as we were walking out he stopped and sat on the floor saying he felt like he was going to throw up (the doctor said nausea was a side effect of the medication) so we hurried and grabbed a garbage can near by which happened to be the doctors office.  Sorry!  We then had to wait a little longer at the ER for Carson to feel better.   Finally, we were able to leave.  5 hours later!  And since Logan had a doctors appointment earlier that day I was literally at the hospital ALL freakin day. No fun.  Did I mention Brad was out of town?  Lucky dog.
Two weeks later we got a cast on!  The only color choice was either blue or pink.  He chose blue.  Grandpa Clark fractured his wrist from a motorcycle accident just one week after Carson broke his arm.  So they had fun showing off each other's battle wounds on facetime.  And apprarently Carson followed in his dad's and grandpa's footsteps.  They both broke their left arms at the same age as Carson.  This would have been a tradition I would have happily avoided, but he does look pretty cute with it on.

Pool, Camp, Big Boy Bed

After Utah, we had to fill in the void that always ensues after we leave family.  We only had a month left before school was to start so we wanted to make sure we did everything that we've been wanting to do this summer.  Namely, go to the pool, lots.

and the two older boys went to vacation bible school!  This years theme...Superheroes.  Perfect for my boys. This was the first time I've been inside a Mega Church and I must say I was super impressed!  They were well organized and made it so fun for the kids. The boys loved it and already have asked to go again next year.

We also pulled out our queen size mattress for a visitor and decided instead of packing it away that we would take down the crib and turn it into Logan's big boy bed.  I must say aside from moving, we have never taken down the crib in 8 years.  We've always had another baby to place in it.  It was one of those sad realization moments that we're moving past the baby stage, and I don't know how I feel about that.

In any case, Logan was sure excited, especially since his brothers wanted to help Logan transition into his new bed by sleepin with him his first few nights!
