Halloween 2018

As always it was a fun Halloween!  It started off with parties!
A couples only costume party:

Our witch's night in for Bunco group

The boys decorated a haunted house:

and for school they painted pumpkins for their school's library pumpkin walk.  The pumpkins have to be based off of literary characters so we chose Harry Potter and his owl.

I went to the school a few days later to look at the pumpkin parade only to find out that poor Harry Potter just got thrown away because he had started leaking 😞
We also got Boo'd!  Our favorite neighborhood tradition.
Next up was our Halloween/book character parade at school!

and I thought I was taking a video of Carson in the parade but apparently I wasn't. I felt bad, but I got Tanner!

and Logan loves to come with me dressed up in his costume as well.
and afterwards we got donuts.  There's something about Halloween and donuts.

It was a very soggy Halloween.  It rained all day and then stopped around 5:30 p.m, it was going to storm up again later so as soon as it stopped raining everyone in our neighborhood jumped at the chance to trick or treat before the storm would start again.

It was so fun to see the whole neighborhood out and about in their costumes!  Last year there was hardly anyone trick or treating (it rained all night plus it was also the Astros World Series Championship game last year) so it was fun to see the neighborhood so busy this year and to run into all our friends!
it ended up being a great night!  Then just 5 minutes after we came home it started pouring.  Glad the weather cleared up enough to enjoy our Halloween!

My not so fun Halloween Scare

Earlier in October I got a call with my test results from a mole my dermatologist recently removed.  It was pre-cancerous.  I was a little surprised and a little frightened.  I haven't heard the word cancer coming from my doctors in a long time.

I get at least one or two moles removed with each dermatology visit since my Melanoma, and they always turn out fine.  At the appointment I was surprised when my dermatologist recommend to remove it because she thought it looked suspicious. I didn't see anything suspicious about it!  I guess thats why I consistently need to go to my dermatologists.  They catch the things I don't.  To me it just looked like a regular sun spot, but my dermatologist wanted to remove it because it was almost on top of two other ones.

Being pre-cancerous they needed to make sure that they got all of the potentially cancerous cells out and so I had to have a small surgical procedure to remove more skin around that area.
The doctor who performed my surgery was really good, he likes to listen to music as he works, and spoke to me the entire time to calm me.  The negative was that there was nothing to shield me.  So if I wanted to I could see the whole procedure, which I didn't, so I looked across the room at Brad.  However looking at him wasn't helpful either as his face said it all!  Especially when he said "is that fat?" to the doctor with a disgusted face.  Luckily the surgery only lasted about a half hour, but I felt every tug and pull as he stitched me up.  And I had this cool new look just in time for Halloween.  Although this was not the kind of Halloween scares that are fun.  I now have a lovely new scar on my right arm to go along with my melanoma scars on my left arm.  Apparently I only get cancer on my arms!

I'm so thankful that they caught this in its earliest stages!  So very very thankful, however this little episode was very triggering and brought back a lot of emotions from 3 years ago.  I'll admit it was a little PTSD.  Even though my cancer fight was 3 years ago I was reminded that this is always going to be something I'm going to have to worry about.

The day after my surgery I actually had my semi annual CT/MRI. So Thursday surgery, Friday my scans, and Monday my appointment with my oncologist. It was a fun filled weekend!

I see the same radiologist every time so he knows me (as much as one can in those circumstances) and before my CT scan he saw the bandage on my arm and asked what happened.  I told him they found more cancer and they had to get it out.  "But you've been clear for years!" he said.  "I know".  After the scan he escorted me back to my room and very melancholy said "I hope that everything on your scans are ok". He's never said anything like that to me before, so it made me uneasy.  Did he see something on the scans or was he just saying that because of what he saw on my arm?

I know I've said it before, but I just love my oncologist.  She is so personable, friendly and just makes you feel better.  My CT scans did indeed show new spots on my lungs.  She said that they are incredibly tiny, so tiny that she couldn't even see them and that she said is why they have radiologists, but she said that even 50% of radiologists probably would have missed them they are that tiny.  Since our lungs are like a filtration system, they catch a lot of stuff. So those super tiny spots could be because I'm sick or have allergies.  She didn't seem too worried to do anything just yet, but wants to monitor it instead.  In 3 months (end of January) I'll go back in for a CT scan and if the spots are gone (fingers crossed) great!  If they are still there, then I'll need to have a biopsy done to see if its cancerous.  I'm thankful that Brad comes with me to all my appointments.  The last couple of years these appointments have been short with good news, so I feel bad that he missed work for it.  But you never know when you'll get bad news, and it was comforting to have him by my side.

I also spoke to her about the pre-cancerous mole I just had surgery on and how frustrated/scared I was that I was that close to having cancer again.  I've been trying to be so good with sunscreen!  She told me it probably won't be the last time I'll get it.  I'll always have to be vigilant, she commended me on how diligent I am about seeing my dermatologist regularly, that they caught this early and to keep it up. But due to my genetic pre-dispossession that I'll probably keep getting them again and again, and with each time say "damnit" and move past it and keep living life.

So for now I'm going to enjoy the holiday season and then come January I'm sure I won't be able to avoid the anxiety, till I know the results, but I'm going to try.

Tanner turns 7

Blink and before you know it, they've grown up to be a big kid.  My little Tanner Banner turned 7.  He's my little tease, big hearted, little man.  Sure am proud of him and all that he does!

His birthday was on a Saturday so I came the day before to eat birthday lunch with him at school and to pass out treats.  They also opened up his favorite fast food place just down the street (I mean they literally opened up just that week) so he was so surprised and excited to have Freddy's for his birthday.

2 other kids had birthdays that day/weekend so his class got lots of donuts and cupcakes that day!
On his actual birthday the day started out with a soccer game, followed by his birthday party at Momentum (the rock climbing gym) one of Tanner's favorite places.  All the kids had an absolute blast.  It was a great way to celebrate!

As a thank you, Tanner gave his friends a water bottle and pop rocks.  The tag reads "Thank you for hanging out with me!  You rock!"
 Great group of boys!
Love ya Tan Man!

10 Year Blogaversary

this post marks my 900th post!!!

It's also my blog's 10 year anniversary!  I started this blog back in 2008.  Seems crazy its been that long!  When I first started blogging, blogging was huge!  Once upon a time all my friends had a blog, but over the years slowly but surely one by one they all stopped.  I only have one friend that still blogs.  Blogging got replaced by Instagram.  Why write a novel when you can save time with just a picture?  And while I love posting pictures on Instagram.  For me it just can't replace the intimate stories that blogging gives me.  Which is why after all these years I'm still here.

I started this blog when we lived in Arizona and I thought it would be a great way for my family to see what we're doing.  I know they're the only ones still reading this and I love them for it. Even now it's my mom and sister that are always after me for updates.  They keep me on my toes.  And while I may have started this blog for them and even friends to see how what we're up to, this website of mine has become my journal.  Something that I truly enjoy doing. I love looking back on and seeing all that we've done.  All the vacations, babies, and milestones. This blog has been there from day 1 with all my kids.  I mean every time I got pregnant I would go back through my old pregnancy posts to compare my pregnancy's.  Cuz you know after you have a baby you get pregnancy amnesia so you forget how miserable a pregnancy can be. I was so thankful that I had that to look back on, because I did indeed forget all about it! Or even looking through my old cancer blogs to remember all that I went through so to never forget and to remember how strong I was to give me renewed strength. This blog has been therapeutic.

And while blogging is no longer the thing to do.  I don't ever plan to stop.  I love documenting about us and have turned this blog into many books, so that hopefully when my kids are older they can look back and I can prove to them that yes we were a cool family and yes we did take you to DisneyWorld when you were 4 here's the proof.

Autumn Time with Logan

Starting the month of October with some fun fall activities like library story time where the firefighters came and read stories to the kids.  And they got to play on the fire truck.
Aww I love this time of year and one of my favorite things to do with the kids is going to the pumpkin patch!  We went with our Friday play group and it was a perfect activity for these preschoolers. You couldn't have asked for a more gorgeous day to go too.  It was perfect timing because just a week later it was cold and constantly raining for almost a month straight.
Logan loves this picture and likes to show me how big he is!
the big dirt pile with tractors was a big hit.
as well as the slides.

barrel ride!

camel at the farm? haha it was still cute though seemingly out of place
there a sheep is more like it.

tractor hay ride.  Classic.

Such a fun day at the pumpkin patch.  We stayed almost all day and played hard.  I just love spending time with this kid!  And yes that is a black eye.  A friend hit him with a toy baseball bat and gave him this shiner.  It's a boy thing right?
After the pumpkin patch our family went to our newest tradition from last year, the Hocus Pocus Houston Symphony concert.  This year we went with some friends which made it even more fun!  Some of the music highlights of the night were Thriller, Frozen, & Incredibles.  We love it!  And while the whole family did go, I only got this cute picture of Logan.
