Horseshoe Bend kayaking

This was the adventure I’d been looking forward to the most on our trip—and it did not disappoint. Absolutely breathtaking from start to finish. Postcard perfection.

We started by taking a ferry upriver to the top of the bend, near some ancient petroglyphs carved into the rock. After checking those out, we loaded up the kayaks and began our 10-mile journey down the Colorado River.

The water was calm, so we had to do most of the paddling ourselves (no lazy river here!). The scenery was stunning—towering canyon walls around every curve, with that iconic bend slowly unfolding before us. Carson and Tanner took the lead like champs, and Logan hung in there until about halfway, when Brad gave him a few gentle pushes to help him along.

We pulled over to a sandy little bar halfway through and had lunch from our dry bags, soaking in the peace and quiet. It took us about three and a half hours total, but we were well prepared—hats, long sleeves, towels over our legs. No sunburns, just sun-soaked memories.

Being a little naughty

Just look at how clear the water is!

We saw some wild horses! There were about 4 or 5  taking a drink. Kae and Brent even saw some mountain goats on their ferry ride!

It was such a peaceful, beautiful way to experience one of the most iconic places in the Southwest. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
