Sainte-Chapelle

After the Louvre we crossed the Seine to visits Saint-Chapelle

This stunning historic gothic chapel doesn’t look like much on the outside, but goodness that all changes once you see the inside!

Built in 1248 by Louis IX to house the Kings collection of the Passion Relics including the Crown of Thorns (the crown is believed to contain pieces of the crown that Jesus wore right before his crucifixion). Side note: the Crown of Thorns along with other relics was later moved for safekeeping during the French Revolution. In the 19th century The Crown of Thorns made its new home in the Notre Dame cathedral until the 2019 fire. The crown was saved by local firefighters and is currently in the Louvre and occasionally brought out during special ceremonies.

Seriously just speechless

There are 15 towering stained glass windows. These windows depict 1,100 scenes from the Bible starting with Genesis and wiring its way from the Old Testament to the New Testament and ending with the arrival of the relics to Paris.

The way the stained glass catches the light just makes this room glow.

 Out of all the chapels/temples/mosques I have ever seen, I think this takes the cake and is my favorite.
